Canadian folklorist, singer, and songwriter
Shelley Posen is a multifaceted Canadian artist, excelling as a folklorist, singer, and songwriter. His musical endeavors include being a member of the folk trio Finest Kind, where he contributes his vocal and songwriting talents. Additionally, Posen has shared his expertise through writing, notably as the author of the 'Songfinder' column for Sing Out!, a publication dedicated to folk music. His early career was marked by his role as Director of Mariposa in the Schools in the 1970s, while he was still pursuing his graduate studies.
Posen's professional journey has been highlighted by his extensive fieldwork and recordings of traditional songs, particularly in the Ottawa Valley. His academic and curatorial pursuits led him to become the Curator of Canadian Folklife at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, now known as the Canadian Museum of History, a position he held from 2001 to 2015.
