Nancy Chodorow

American sociologist (1944–2025)

Nancy Chodorow was a prominent American sociologist, born in 1944, who made significant contributions to the field of psychology. Her academic career spanned several decades, during which she held teaching positions at various esteemed institutions. Chodorow began her teaching career at Wellesley College in 1973, followed by a move to the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she taught from 1974 to 1986.

Chodorow's subsequent academic appointments included a position as Professor of Sociology and Clinical Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, a role she held until 2005. She was later conferred the title of Professor Emeritus, marking her distinguished service to the institution. After her retirement from Berkeley, Chodorow went on to teach psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and the Cambridge Health Alliance, further solidifying her expertise in the field of psychology. She passed away in 2025, leaving behind a legacy of academic excellence and contributions to the field of sociology and psychology.
