Lewis Aron

American psychoanalyst and psychotherapist (1952–2019)

Lewis Aron was a prominent American psychoanalyst and psychotherapist, renowned for his contributions to the field of relational psychoanalysis. Born in 1952, Aron dedicated his career to teaching and lecturing on psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, leaving a lasting impact on the profession. He held esteemed positions, including Director of the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, and founding president of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.

Aron's academic and professional achievements are marked by numerous notable publications and affiliations. His book, A Meeting of Minds: Mutuality in Psychoanalysis, published in 1996, and the edited volume, Relational Psychoanalysis: The Emergence of a Tradition, co-edited with Stephen Mitchell in 1999, are considered seminal texts in contemporary American psychoanalysis. Aron also co-edited the Relational Perspectives Book Series with Adrienne Harris and was a founding member of the journal Psychoanalytic Dialogues: The International Journal of Relational Perspectives. He passed away in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of contributions to the field of psychology, particularly in relational psychoanalysis, and held certifications from the American Board of Professional Psychology and the American Board of Psychoanalysis.
