Jacob ben Nissim

Jacob ben Nissim was a prominent Jewish philosopher and mathematician of the 10th century, residing in Kairouan, Tunisia. His lifetime coincided with that of the notable scholar Saadia, with Jacob being the younger of the two. As a scholar, Jacob ben Nissim engaged with esteemed figures of his time, including Sherira Gaon, with whom he had a notable exchange.

Jacob ben Nissim's contributions to Jewish scholarship include a commentary on the Sefer Yeẓirah, written in Arabic. Additionally, his request to Sherira Gaon led to the creation of the treatise Iggeret, which focused on the redaction of the Mishnah.
