Gary P. Zola

Gary P. Zola is a prominent American rabbi with a specialization in history. He has held distinguished positions at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) in Cincinnati, including the Edward M. Ackerman Family Distinguished Professor of the American Jewish Experience & Reform Jewish History. His academic and professional pursuits have been centered at HUC-JIR, where he has made significant contributions to the field of American Jewish history.

Zola has been at the helm of The Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives (AJA) since 1998, serving as its executive director. He succeeded his mentor, Jacob Rader Marcus, in this role. Under his leadership, Zola has also edited The American Jewish Archives Journal, the semi-annual publication of The Marcus Center, which has received awards for its excellence. Through his work at the AJA and HUC-JIR, Zola has established himself as a leading figure in the study and preservation of American Jewish history.
